Tech Tip 9

CV Joint Assembly.

Articulation Tightness.

Articulation tightness is 100% tested by the OEM’s.

OEM operators fit the cage-race sub-assembly to the housing, align ball slots and tracks, apply a lever to the race bore and fit 6 balls by hand. No hammering balls into tracks!

Hammer blows cause surface damage and are unnecessary when fitting correct parts.

When assembled, joints are articulated 360° clockwise and anti-clockwise using the lever.
A torque transducer measures the reaction force at the housing stem and the result is checked against specification. Low torque means loose joints and rattle. High torque means tight joints and running hot.
