Specification
The AES HRG2000 is a 6-axis CNC machine able to grind the ball
tracks of housing and race, or the windows of a cage. It
can grind radial, dual arc (Honda), cross groove (pancake) and
Tripot track profiles, and round or gothic arch track forms.
It uses low cost, dressable grinding wheels able to grind up to
350 parts per wheel. (CBN plated wheels for cross groove)
The main elements of the machine are
arranged on a very strong, rigid, steel base, as follows
>
Wheelhead
Features a 7.5KW high frequency, chiller-cooled grinding
spindle with infinitely variable speed up to a maximum of
45,000 rpm. The spindle is held horizontally in a cast iron
housing set on a slideway system giving 3 axes of linear
movement (X, Y and Z) to the grinding wheel relative to the
workpiece.
>
Workhead
Features a CNC servo driven index head (U axis) and
interchangeable work holders including a collet chuck for
housings, a universal fixture for cages and expanding
mandrel for races. The workhead is set horizontally on a
table giving 2 axes of movement: radial for track grinding
(C-axis) and linear for control of track centerline (b-axis).
>
Dressing
Achieved by a 0.25KW high frequency, air-cooled spindle,
with a maximum speed of 16,000 rpm (4 speeds). The dressing
spindle is held horizontally in a fixed bracket near to the
grinding spindle. It rotates a diamond-disc that dresses the
track form onto the wheel by CNC interpolation of grinding
spindle axes X and Z.

through fiber optic cables to a GE Fanuc 18iMB CNC.
Machine mounted electrical and electronic control cabinets.
Slideway lubrication by pressurised oil mist .
Slideway protection by wiper seals and bellows.
High pressure (12 bar), temperature controlled (25ºC),
mineral oil coolant system, dual cleaned by magnetic
separator and pressure bag filter.
Pre-grind setting for housing and cage by manual fixture.
Pre-grind setting for race is automatic in cycle.
Machine base is painted with two pack epoxy blue and
enclosure stove enamelled grey.
Simple program change by manual data entry input of
parameter values.
Optional language CNC and parameter display.
