Specification
The Cage Junior is a 3-axis CNC machine tool, specifically
designed to grind the full range of CVJoint cages using
dressable grinding wheels. It is part of the HRG Junior family,
which, in turn, is derived from the highly successful HRG2000
and Cage Twin grinders and incorporates many of the features
that make these machines industry leaders.
The main elements of the machine are
arranged on a very strong, rigid, steel base, as follows

Wheelhead
Features a 7.5 KW high frequency, chiller-cooled grinding
spindle with infinitely variable speed up to a maximum of 45,000
rpm. The spindle is held horizontally in a cast iron housing set
on a slideway system giving two axes of linear movement (X and
Z) to the grinding wheel relative to the workpiece

Workhead
(C axis)
Features a purpose designed precision rotary axis
driven by AC servomotor through a high ratio harmonic
reduction drive unit for the elimination of backlash and
indexing error. It is under full CNC control with 0.001º
resolution

Workholding
A simple workholding mandrel is mounted to the spindle nose;
this universal fixture easily accommodates all cage sizes. A
hand operated universal orientation device is mounted to the
base for correct location of the cage relative to the
grinding wheel

Dressing
Is achieved using a dressing diamond mounted to the workhead.
Grinding wheels are dressed on approach to the cage and
before the grinding cycle commences
